Boston Post cane. Replica of original, which is at Town Office. Second replica usually in use (loan for life) by the recipient, the town's oldest citizen. All canes are property of the Town of Southwest Harbor. Recipients have included Jacob Schoppy Mayo 1818-1912 [See SWPL 14165], Elizabeth Thurston King 1905-2009, Mary Orcutt Harkins 1919- . At present recipiant asked not to have cane at her house. Both replicas at Historical Society in 2018.

Built and installed by Alice Smith of Pretty Marsh. It was replaced by the sign that now is at the top of Carroll's Hill. I found the sign in the bushes behind the new sign. I took it to my storage shed so it would not degrade further in the woods."
