| Boston Post cane. Replica of original, which is at Town Office. Second replica usually in use (loan for life) by the recipient, the town's oldest citizen. All canes are property of the Town of Southwest Harbor. Recipients have included Jacob Schoppy Mayo 1818-1912 [See SWPL 14165], Elizabeth Thurston King 1905-2009, Mary Orcutt Harkins 1919- . At present recipiant asked not to have cane at her house. Both replicas at Historical Society in 2018. |

The front of the postcard features American troops carrying instruments and marching down the Avenue President Wilson in Paris, France on July 4, 1918. Everett Torrey was born in 1895. Torrey was drafted during World War I in May 1918, and discharged in August 1919 after sustaining an injury during the war. After he was discharged, Torrey and Reta Farley were married. Everett died in 1969 and is buried in Mt. Height Cemetery in Southwest Harbor. |
