Manset Union Church. Weekly Bulletin. Includes short history of the Church on the back. The Manset Union Church was first begun around 1800 on the old Bass Harbor Road which is south of the present church. It took several years to build the church, which was used in the summer long before it was completed in 1828. It was later moved to its present site. Finances for construction were partially obtained by the sale of pews. During the years 1860-1870 the front was changed, using a central door instead of two side doors. A steeple was added and a bell installed. This is the oldest church building on Mount Desert Island and it has been in constant use ever since its construction. Many denominations have worshipped here through the years. It was changed from a Public Meeting House to the Manset Union Church in 1954 and joined the United Church of Christ in 1961.
